Travel Risk Assessment

A comprehensive risk assessment should be undertaken for any person who is travelling. Consider all travel-related risks, prevention advice and provisions for the traveller, such as insect bite avoidance, immunisations, and malaria prophylaxis. You’ll need to contact us to arrange this, ideally 6 to 8 weeks before you leave. If your trip is sooner, contact us anyway as we may still be able to help and could provide vital health information.

Polio

Dosage: 1

Polio is a serious infection that’s now very rare because of the vaccination programme. It’s only found in a few countries and the chance of getting it in the UK is extremely low.

Japanese Encephalitis

Dosage: 2

Japanese encephalitis is a viral brain infection that’s spread through mosquito bites. It’s most common in rural areas in southeast Asia, the Pacific islands and the Far East, but is very rare in travellers.

Cholera

Dosage: 2

Cholera is an infection that can cause severe diarrhoea. It’s not found in the UK, but there’s a very small risk of getting it while travelling in some parts of the world.

Rabies

Dosage: 3

Rabies is a rare but very serious infection of the brain and nerves. It’s usually caught from the bite or scratch of an infected animal, most often a dog.

Meningitis ACWY

Meningitis is an infection of the protective membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord (meninges).

Diptheria

Diphtheria is a highly contagious infection that affects the nose and throat, and sometimes the skin. It’s rare in the UK, but there’s a small risk of catching it if you travel to some parts of the world.

Tetanus

Tetanus is a serious but rare condition caused by bacteria getting into a wound.

Tick-borne Encephalitis

Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) is an infection spread by tick bites. Ticks that spread it are found in parts of Europe and Asia, and some parts of the UK.

Typhoid

Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection that can spread throughout the body, affecting many organs. Without prompt treatment, it can cause serious complications and can be fatal.

Chicken Pox

Dosage: 2

Chickenpox is a mild and common childhood illness that most children catch at some point.

MMR

Dosage: 1

Measles, mumps and rubella are viral infections which caught by breathing in infected droplets released when someone with one of the viruses coughs or sneezes, or picked up from surfaces and transferred into your nose and mouth from your hands.

Pneumonia

Dosage: 1

Pneumonia is swelling (inflammation) of the tissue in one or both lungs. It’s usually caused by a bacterial infection.

Shingles

Dosage: 1

It is an infection of a nerve and the skin around it. It’s caused by the varicella-zoster virus, which also causes chickenpox.

Hepatitis A

Hepatitis A is a liver infection caused by the hepatitis A virus. You catch hepatitis A by swallowing the virus in food or drink that contains it, or touching your mouth with your hands that have picked up the virus from touching infected poo.

Hepatitis B

Dosage: 2

Hepatitis B is an infection of the liver. It is caused by a virus that is spread through direct contact with infected person.
